yi dun huang wei yuan de dong bei dong
With Dun Huang(1) as the east northeast of this center of the globe

zhe min zu de hai an xian xian yi zhi gong
This people’s coastline is shaped like a bow

na chang cheng xiang wu qian nian lai dai she de meng
That Great Wall is like the dawning of a dream after five thousand years of silence.

I use my arms to lift this whole land’s weight.

meng gu gao yuan nan xia de feng xie xie shen me nei rong
Southward wind from the Mongolian heights. Writes some kind of meaning.

han zi dao di dong bu dong yi yang fu se he mian kong
Do the young men really understand? Same skin color and faces.

kua yue huang he dong deng shang tai shan ding feng
Cross the eastern Yellow River, climb to the peak of Tai Mountain

wo xiang xi yin bei feng shai cheng yi shen gu tong
I turn west, lead the northern wind, take in the sun till my body’s bronze.

#
# ke wang zhe xie mai xiang tong wu xian ge qian wan di xiong
#Crave the blood ties that bind us— Infinite thousands upon ten thousands of brothers.

wo ba tian di chai feng jiang chang jiang shui tao kong
I unseal heaven and earth, pull all the water out of the Yangtze River.(2)

ren zai gu lao he chuang tui bian zhong
The people of the ancient riverbeds are transforming!

*
* wo you quan da kai le tian hua shen wei long
My right fist opens the heavens! Transform into the dragon!

ba shan he chong xin yi dong tian ping lie feng
Set the mountains and rivers in motion anew, fill in the chasms to level things out.

One day the rising star of the East will shake space and time.

hui dao hong huang qu zhi pei qu cao zong
Return to the primeval. Go conquer! Go take control!

wo you quan da kai le hua shen wei long
My right fist opens the heavens! Transform into the dragon!

na da di xin zang xiong yong bu an tiao dong
That great land’s heart is raging like a rushing torrent.

quan shi jie de biao qing zhi sheng xia yi zhong
The whole world is left with only one thought:

等待英雄 我就是那條龍
deng dai ying xiong wo jiu shi na tiao long
Waiting for a hero… I am that dragon.

(1) The Dun Huang Caves in central China were originally a stopping point on the Silk Road, which led to the capital of Chang An (modern Xi An). Buddhism was introduced to China along this route and some monks settled in grottoes at Dun Huang. The grottoes date from around 350 C.E., and are filled with Buddhist paintings and sculptures.
(2) The Yangtze River or Changjiang, the Chinese name.
